What To Expect After A Laser Tattoo Removal

February 7, 2020

Are you planning to have a tattoo removed?

The number of sessions you will need depends on the size, age , colours of the tattoo and the quality of the laser that is used. The larger and more elaborate the design, the more likely it is you will have to attend multiple treatments.

Laser removal will not erase the tattoo, per se. What it does is break up the pigments in the tattoo and allow all of the ink to be redistributed through the bloodstream. At that point, it is removed through the body’s natural waste disposal process.. This is why you will need several treatments in order to have the best results. There are several factors that affect the outcome, but the size, age and ink quality are the largest. The better the tattoo is, the more difficult it will be to remove.

What To Expect During The Healing Process

Depending on the laser that is used for your procedure, recovery and healing times can vary greatly.

During the actual treatment, your tattoo will likely turn a frosty white. This is due to the carbon dioxide that is being released as the laser penetrates the outer layers of the skin.
Soon after treatment, your treated area may feel like a slight sunburn.. This typically lasts 1-2 days. This is all totally normal. The thickening or shedding of the outer layer of skin is also something that happens occasionally and is your body’s way of trying to heal itself. Some people may notice light bleeding or spotting in the area, this is also normal.

What About Scarring?

When it comes to tattoo removal. Most people are concerned about scarring. Luckily, this is usually minimal. In fact, it only happens in about 2% of all cases, it is normally picked up as a potential problem in your pre treatment medical assessment. When it typically happens, it is very light and can be minimised by using Tea Tree oil or and Vitamin E.cream. Make sure that the area is kept clean and dry, and if you have any concerns call the doctor or nurse who treated you for support..

Once your tattoo is all healed, you can consider a new design or taking pride in your clean, new skin.
